The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting opportunity for a full time Nurse Educator. The Nurse Educator 2 is a Registered Nurse responsible for multi-site or specialty-specific professional development of the staff. The Nurse Educator 2 fulfills multi-site/specialty unit(s) functions according to the Nursing Professional Development (NPD) roles of learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for scientific inquiry, advocate for NPD specialty, and partner for practice transitions. The incumbent carries out these responsibilities in alignment with the current Nursing Professional Development Scope & Standards of Practice and utilizing the nursing process as applied to the specialty (assessment, learning needs and outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation).
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Collaborates with Nurse Educator 3 and under the direction of the Manager, assesses and implements multi-site/specialty unit(s) educational programs for nursing and clinical staff based on environmental scanning: identified practice gaps, regulatory/accreditation, specialty standards, PI reports, mission/values, policies, procedures, guidelines, and learning needs.
Develops and evaluates activities to achieve specific outcomes related to identified deficits or opportunities for improvement in knowledge, skills, or practice.
Creates a learning environment by collaborating with practitioners, leaders, nurses, educators, patient care staff, and unit management in providing continuing nursing education and in-services.
Coordinates education of patient care staff to ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
Documents completion, reviews and recommends revision of competency, and addresses competency deficits in staff members and teams.
Assesses and evaluates the process of orienting, socializing, and integrating an employee to the organization with a focus on retention and growth.
Facilitates multi-site/specialty unit(s) orientation of licensed and unlicensed healthcare personnel during onboarding and when changes in roles, responsibilities, and practice settings occur.
Collaborates with PDD to develop, coordinate, manage, facilitate, conduct, and evaluate onboarding and orientation programs for multi-site/specialty unit(s) licensed and unlicensed healthcare personnel.
Appraises professional knowledge by partnering with individuals, groups, and/or organizations to share expertise in planning and decision-making to achieve common goals.
Collaborative partnerships may include inter-professional groups within the organization, academic/practice partnerships, and community partnerships.
Participates in the planning and approval of applicable continuing education programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (CCNE and / or ACEN)
Certification and Licensing:
Valid State of Florida RN license
Preferred Certifications:
CNOR Certification- (Certified Perioperative Nurse)
CAPA ( Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse)
CPAN ( Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse)
AMB-BC ( Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification)
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Department Specific Functions
Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Nursing and Clinical Education, the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (BPEI) Nurse Educator 2 provides onboarding, annual, and clinical education to patient care staff and oversees the new hire onboarding process. The incumbent is responsible for assessing, planning, developing, delivering, coordinating, and evaluating the education needs of all staff. This position will be based on the BPEI Miami campus but will be overseeing the BPEI satellite locations in Palm Beach Gardens and Naples.
Provides staff education and resources to enhance patient care and quality outcomes.
Collaborate with Nursing Leaders, other Nurse Educators, Professional Development, and staff to assess the staff's learning needs and competencies.
Assists staff with educational needs, problem resolution, time management, and critical thinking skills development specific to Ophthalmic Ambulatory Surgery.
Designs, facilitates, and assesses learning activities and curriculum related to clinical competencies, department/organization policies, regulatory requirements, and the use of clinical information technologies.
Implements clinical skills activities within established clinical and preceptorship models and implements educational strategies to ensure compliance with quality standards.
Participates in developing, coordinating, and delivering staff orientation, competency evaluation, and education activities.
Tracks and trends assigned unit certification compliance. Provides ongoing oversight of clinical ladder compliance and reports any deviation to nursing leadership.
Educates technical and patient care staff in the use of new equipment, supplies, instruments, and technology, and coordinates in-service training and workshops.
Develop learning needs assessment and administrative/staff requests based on unit quality outcomes.
Collaborates in the development of Nurse Driven Protocols for unit/department.
Ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures, including mandatory in-service employee health procedures and federal, state, regulatory, and accrediting agency standards while promoting continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Maintains professional knowledge by affiliating with professional and technical organizations and participating in applicable continuing education programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops.
Serve as subject matter expert in the pre-, intra, and postoperative phases of Ambulatory Surgery and in the specialty of ophthalmology.
Familiarity with AAAHC, Joint Commission, AORN, and ASPAN standards and guidelines.
Able to travel to BPEI satellite locations on a regular basis.
Department Specific Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of Nursing.
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred, if no MSN, must enroll in an MSN program within one year of hire.
Certification and Licensing:
Unencumbered and current Florida or Compact Nursing License.
BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
National nursing certification is highly preferably (CNOR, AMB-BC, or CAPA/CPAN) or obtain one within one year of hire.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience in a perioperative area.
Minimum of 2 years experience in clinical education, precepting, or providing staff in-services.
Ophthalmology experience is highly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
